About Us

Vellora started with a drawer. Six bottles, none of them right, all of them bought by someone who was trying her best with the information she was given.

The problem was never the customer

Foundation is sold in forty numbered shades with names that describe nothing. To buy the right one you are expected to know your own undertone, judge it against a stripe on your wrist, under lighting designed to make things look good, and get it right first time.

Almost nobody does. So the bottle goes in the drawer, and the woman who bought it concludes she is bad at makeup. She isn't. She was asked to solve a problem the industry created, and then charged for getting it wrong.

We didn't want to sell a better shade. We wanted to remove the moment where you have to choose one.

What we will and won't claim

Our colour-changing foundation adjusts within a range. It is not one bottle for all of humanity and we will never say it is — that claim is why this category has a bad reputation, and it is why we put the shade range on the product page instead of burying it.

If you are deeper than medium, we would rather tell you to wait than take your money. An extended range is the thing we are working on next, and it will launch when it genuinely works, not when it would be convenient to say so.

Why the guarantee is written the way it is

You cannot know if a foundation matches until you have opened it, worn it and seen it in daylight. So asking for an unopened return would make the guarantee meaningless. Open it, wear it out, decide properly. If it isn't yours, we refund you and you keep the bottle.

Three rules we don't bend

The shade range is public

On the product page, above the buy button, not in the small print. If it won't work for you, we would rather you knew before you paid.

Refunds on opened bottles

One email, no return shipping, no retention script. A guarantee you have to leave sealed isn't a guarantee.

Every review published

Including the ones that say it sat too light. Those are the most useful reviews on the site.
